August 3rd, 2016 Comments off

discoveryoursef

  • Have you ever asked yourself why you are drawn to photographing certain subjects ?
  • Is there a common thread that is woven through your body of work ?

This three-hour class will explore the use of personal photographs to understand what lies hidden within the self.

A Professional Photographer and Art Therapist will help each class member with various tools to assist in their discovery.

  • What story can be told of our images?
  • What hidden treasures can we unlock by looking at the patterns that are woven throughout our work? This class will go beyond the functions of the camera and look at how each participant can begin learning new methods of exploring the world around them.  The camera is a bridge that provides a way to cross over and explore our imagery up close and personal. Participants will be asked provide their own images, which will be used as a starting point for the class.

Participants will be asked provide their own images, which will be used as a starting point for the class.

We will look at three specific types of images that you have taken. A subject, a passageway (windows, doors, openings) and a landscape. Theses three images will form the cornerstone of our class and be used as tool toward uncovering hidden treasures. Each class member will create an actual map using provided art material and by compositing their images to form a picture.

This map will serve as a symbol and help ignite a personal transformation. Please bring to class examples of these images that you have taken and your camera. The images should be printed at least 8×10 and can be printed with any printer. The images will be cut and glued onto the map

This training is then accompanied with an exhibition of homeless photography, the men and women of Street Sense’s talented photography workshop, coupled with an informal discussion about the impact of artistic creation for a voiceless community. Light refreshments will be served.

Stephen Greenberg Speaks on Medical Photography

June 15th, 2016 Comments off

See history come alive! Join librarian, historian and photographer Stephen Greenberg as he explores the curious and fascinating world of medical photography.  Photography has long been critical to the practice of medicine, but many times the resulting images and collections are far removed from their original context and therefore mysterious to the viewer.  Why were these pictures taken? Who saw them? How did they reflect the techniques and aesthetics of the rest of contemporary photography, and in particular what do these photos say about photography as the recorder of unmanipulated “truth?”
