photographer Steve Winter to the Paramount Theater to present his images and
stories about endangered big cat species from around the world. Winter was
awarded the distinction of Wildlife Photographer of the Year in 2008 and won
first prize from World Press Photo 2009 for his coverage of the elusive
Central Asian snow leopard. He spent 10 months in the most remote areas of
northern India and Pakistan searching for these endangered creatures and
came back with never before seen photographs displaying the behaviors of
this wild cat. He will present images on the big screen from his entire
career but will mostly focus on his work with Big Cats: snow leopards,
jaguars, and tigers. Tickets are on sale now.

Join us for an all-day Nikon flash photography workshop to learn how to get the most out of your Nikon external flash (SB-600, 800, 900). The Nikon speedlights offer a powerful yet flexible system, whether you have one or more flashes you’ll learn how to maximize their capabilities in this workshop. The workshop will help you understand the modes and functions of your flash, as well as how aperture and shutter speed affect flash photography. Find out how to effectively use multiple flash units and control your flashes wirelessly. Using multiple flash units opens up additional possibilities whether you’re in a studio or on location. They allow you to produce high quality results without the expense and bulk of studio lighting. We’ll also cover working with light modifiers for greater control over lighting your subject. Modifiers covered include soft boxes, umbrellas, diffusers, reflectors, gels, grids and snoots. Part of the workshop will be spent photographing a model where participants will have the opportunity to practice the techniques discussed.

Washington DC based photographer Cade Martin recently worked with the popular television show, American’s Next Top Model, on an interesting photography project.

The concept for the shoot was based on types of dance. Each model was given a different genre of dance (salsa, hip-hop, African, interpretative, break, jazz, etc.) They were instructed in some basic steps and moves before they stepped in front of the camera. Cade was allotted a certain number of frames per each contestant but he says the biggest challenge was the amount of space he had for set up. With all the different crews needed for the show there were about 60+ people on set all day and that made for a different working experience.
